Scot Ranney
Scot started playing piano professionally in 1987. It was 1989 when someone asked him, "What are you doing? Want to play music in Korea?"
Four days later Scot was in Seoul, Korea, playing in an R&B band at the nicest night club in town. Scot would lead bands in Asia for the next several years before returning to eattle where he played jazz piano as a soloist and with his trio for a variety of events and venues.
Scot lived in the Seattle area for the next couple of years before needing a change and moving to Aspen, Colorado. Pulled by the ultimate dream of playing piano at night and skiing in the day, Scot found a job as the house pianist at what was at the time the Ritz-Carlton, Aspen, and enjoyed living in the Rocky Mountains for the next few years before returning to the Northwest.
In June of 2000 Scot moved to Bellingham, Washington, where he plays jazz piano for concerts and events from Vancouver B.C. to Portland, Oregon.
In addition to music, Scot is a web design and technical guru. For Miva Merchant related development, visit Scot's Scripts and for same day web development and support, visit Emergency Web Services.
Scot started taking piano lessons at age 8 and continued to take them for the next ten years. At 18 he quit lessons, started enjoying the piano by realizing he could play anything he wanted to out of the pop music books, and started up on lessons again on it his own.
Scot continued with classical lessons until he met Marc Seales, currently the jazz piano professor at University of Washington. Scot's brother, Travis Ranney, was taking sax lessons with the great Don Lanphere and it was Don who recommended Marc. Scot studied under Marc for a few years and will say that Marc Seales is not only a great jazz mentor, but one of the better players out there
Marc has a saying that Scot took to heart. Simply, take care of business.
